Chief Nursing Officer

Job Summary

Actively involved, at the executive level, in the leadership of the organization. Organizes and administers areas of Patient Care Services to attain the hospital's objectives established by the Governing Body. Responsible for all nursing departments, Radiology, Clinical Laboratory, Pharmacy, Food and Nutrition and Respiratory.

Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas

• Implements standards of nursing practice reviewing and revising as necessary to reflect changes in nursing practice and patient population.
• Responsible for the provision of nursing services 24 hours a day, seven (7) days a week.
• Addresses and supports cultural practices as long as such practices do not harm others or interfere with the planned course of medical therapy.
• Clear, concise and current written policies and procedures are available to assist the staff and minimize risk factors. Nursing policies are approved by the Nurse Executive before implementation.
• Recommends modifications, additions or deletions to nursing staffing plans to ensure reasonable hours and acceptable working conditions to provide optimal patient care coverage.
• Initiates and participates in problem solving, policy forming conferences for patient care services. Maintains close coordination with all departments to insure continuity and collaboration of services.
• Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
• Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.

Regulatory Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Bachelor’s in Nursing.
• Current license by this state as a registered nurse.
• A minimum of a Master’s Degree in healthcare management or nursing.
• Minimum two (2) years prior experience in patient care services.
• Current BLS and ACLS certification required. Should clinical expertise be in Emergency Services PALS is required.
